Bobs Lake Getaway

This vacation is for those wishing a true Ontario lake cottage experience. Bob’s Lake is wonderful, very beautiful vistas and sunsets, relatively underdeveloped (compared to the Muskoka’s),
This compound is relatively old with a long staircase to the water (70+ steps) and complicated septic system. If you are looking for the convenience of road access, new construction, air conditioning, true flush toilets, etc., I would urge you to consider the other properties offered by the owner. I’ve toured them and they are quite modern.
Back to Badour Island. The main cottage is stunning with an absolutely magisterial view from the main bedroom. You feel like you are living in the forest with 360 degree views and multiple screened windows. The main section of the cottage provides a great living area with couches, kitchen, and table. The main area of this section can be used to play ping pong or, as we did, to hang the wonderful hammock. The other two bedrooms are nice as well.
The guest cottage has a different orientation so has different views to the West. Also a very nice cottage with small bedroom with bunk beds and a great bedroom on the second floor with it’s own balcony. The tree house is cute but we didn’t use it — would be suitable for one or two additional guests.
There are three septic systems on the property. They are not hard to maintain properly but do require a bit of attention. We encountered no problems with this.
The water is fabulous for swimming and is immediately very deep so perfect for diving. We loved the waterfront area with its decks, boats, and shed (with beer fridge).
Marla was a great host who helped us through some of the minor annoyances of country living (like a power outage when we arrived) and ensured our stay was pleasurable.
The surrounding area is fun to explore and there is a decent selection of groceries and other items in nearby communities.
All in all, a very relaxing vacation in a very nice compound on a stunning lake. – 7/25/2025

This place was amazing. gorgeous scenery, fantastic lake, fun games and a hot tub! It is on an island and check in time is quite strict which would have been nice to know sooner but all in all a great trip and a fantastic stay. – 6/22/2025 

Our Brighton Dragon Boat Club recently spent a few days at Badour Island Retreat, and it was nothing short of extraordinary. This private island on Bob’s Lake offered the perfect blend of tranquility, adventure, and togetherness — exactly what we needed for a team getaway.
From the moment we arrived, we were blown away by the natural beauty and thoughtful layout of the retreat. The main cottage was spacious and welcoming, with soaring ceilings, warm pine interiors, and stunning views of the surrounding forest and lake. Each additional space — the bunkie, guest cottage, treehouse, and glamping tent — added its own charm and gave everyone room to relax and recharge.
We filled our days with paddling, swimming, pickle ball tournaments, and long chats around the fire. The lakeview hot tub was a favourite, and the well-equipped kitchen made it easy to cook meals together. Whether we were lounging in hammocks or exploring the shoreline, every moment felt special.
Badour Island Retreat gave us the space to bond as a team, reflect on the season, and enjoy nature at its finest. We left feeling refreshed and connected

The island was beautiful, the many different houses accommodated our large group and each family of the 5 that went had their own space to unwind. The kitchen was beautiful and made meal prep and cooking so easy. The kida had lots to do with basketball, board games, mini pool tables, hot tub and the highlight was definitely the swimming. The water was great, warm and clear at any given time during the day and the kids had so much fun jumping off the docks, using the paddle boats and the canoes.We all had such a great time and are so thankful to Marla and Sherri-an employee who helped us when we checked in and checked out- Sherri was a great help, kind, friendly, hospitable and even recommended a different cottage with less steps for next year that I will definitely look into because it was a beautiful experience. Don’t think twice about booking your stay here my family and I loved it! – 8/04/2024

Marla’s place is fantastic. Our group of 13 had a fantastic stay and ended up being a wonderful trip. The house itself is great with a large living room meaning it never felt cramped. The hot tub, kayaks, paddleboards and basketball court all meant we had lots to do during our stay and made the whole experience extremenely enjoyable. Furthermore, Marla and her team were great hosts. They were extremely helpful and were extremely responsive to our questions. We had a such a great time! Thanks so much!! – 10/13/2023

Marla and her team provided a fantastic retreat for our family to get together again after a couple of years without being able to travel, with great accommodation, and a wonderful hot tub with beautiful views. The dock was a great place for swimming, going on a fishing trip or just sitting and enjoying the views – we saw ospreys and bald eagles. We all enjoyed the experience and would definitely recommend it. – 7/30/2022 

We had a great vacation at the island cottages. Everything was as described. Our kids loved playing basketball and ping-pong and enjoyed all water activities- kayaking, canoeing and paddle boarding. The kitchen was modern and had everything required for a great stay. We even made ice cream in the ice cream maker. We truly enjoyed our stay! – 8/20/2021
